Keith Holt

Keith Holt’s woodworking is the culmination of a lifelong pursuit of art. After majoring in fine art in college he pursued his passion to work as a gymnastics instructor which led to owning and running his own gymnastics center in the Baltimore area. As Keith learned the woodworking and woodturning processes in 2003, he began to realize their artistic potentials. Over the years, he has refined his technique and sought new artistic visions in wood. His experience with the beautiful movement encountered in gymnastics has been incorporated into his works through the use of multi-axis turning and carving. Keith also grounds his work in the spiritual practice that shapes his life. This seamless expression of inner spirit through outer form is the goal of every piece he makes. In early 2010, he left the gymnastics world to pursue his art full-time.

Keith’s works have gained world wide recognition. He has demonstrated regionally in the Mid-Atlantic and also nationally at the American Association of Woodturners International Symposiums (AAW). He has been showcased in Woodturning Design Magazine, American Woodturner, Creative Woodturning New Zealand, and was a featured artist in Woodturning Magazine in England. His piece, "Clear View," toured nationally with the 2008 AAW exhibition "Turn for Use II." In 2009, Keith received a POP grant to further explore his work in figurative multi-axis turning. In 2010, his collaborative piece was selected for the special exhibit "A Decade at Echo Lakes". In 2011, Jane & Arthur Mason and David Ellsworth selected the piece "Longing" for the permanent collection of the American Association of Woodturners. Since then, Keith has been exhibiting at national and international fine art craft shows.
